Silicone Standards

Silicone Application

For cultured marble surrounds, 100% silicone is used as the primary adhesive and waterproof sealant. Silicone is applied in continuous beads along all seams, corners, and joints for waterproofing, and at all tub-to-panel transitions. Proper application ensures strong adhesion, allows for slight movement, and creates a watertight seal to prevent moisture intrusion.

All installations must be fully caulked (including tops of panels) before marking complete.

  • Caulking must be smooth, continuous and professionally finished.

  • All caulk lines must be free of gaps, voids or rough edges.

  • Use correct caulk type and color as specified below:

    • Use White (100%) silicone on all Solid White, Subway and Danville panels.

      • Only caulk the perimeter of panels with white silicone when the bathroom walls are painted unless otherwise specified by the contractor to use paintable latex caulk.

    • Use Translucent (100%) silicone on all Tyvarian colors.

      • Only caulk the perimeter of Tyvarian panels with Translucent silicone when the bathroom walls are painted unless otherwise specified by the contractor to use paintable latex caulk.

    • NEVER USE paintable latex caulk on any cultured marble seams INSIDE the shower or tub surround areas. It should only be used on the perimeter of cultured marble to seal to a sheetrock surface.

    • Tyvarian Bond should only be used to adhere cultured marble panels to a flat, dust free surface.

  • All drilled holes into horizontal surfaces (curb, wall cap, sill) must be filled with silicone before installing screws.

General Silicone Standards (All Installations)

Shower Door Installation - Silicone Application SOP

Purpose: Ensure consistent waterproofing, appearance, and long-term performance of all shower door installations.

Semi-Euro Shower Doors

  • Vertical edges: silicone on both inside and outside.

  • Horizontal pieces/sill: silicone on outside only; inside edge left open to allow inward weep.

Pony Wall Buttress (Semi-Euro)

  • Silicone both sides of glass entering the buttress.

  • Metal-to-wall cap: silicone on outside only.

  • Long buttress: optional 1-inch inside bead to prevent glass movement.

Bypass and Barn Doors

  • Follow Semi-Euro standards for all vertical and horizontal edges.

  • Add a short inside bead on the sill to prevent movement if bumped.

  • Barn doors: apply silicone into the drilled holes on curb before installing guide screws.

Full Euro Shower Doors

  • Silicone both inside and outside of glass.

  • Horizontal clamps: silicone bottom of clamp only; do not wrap silicone around clamps.

  • Seal all drilled holes in horizontal surfaces prior to fastening.

Critical Water Protection Detail

  • Silicone the end of the sill where it meets the wall to prevent water intrusion.
